This beautiful sterling silver snake ring is open and adjustable and is hand carved and casted into silver by using the old lost wax technique. A unique ethereal piece of jewelry that makes a beautiful gift to yourself, to someone special.
Snake jewelry can be found in many ancient civilizations and especially amongs ancient Greeks. Their malleable curves served as the perfect and most elegant animal motif for jewelry designs. The motif can be seen worn by female figures depicted on Athenian vases during the 6th and 5th centuries B.C., but it was during the 4th century B.C. and following that there was a “veritable explosion of the snake motif on jewelry”.
The people of ancient Greece saw the ability of the snake to shed its skin as a symbol of regeneration. It was therefore associated with Aesculapius, the Greek God of Medicine. So, it was used in jewelry as a symbol of protection, healing, renewal, growth, and fertility.
